The 2012 Chevrolet Volt will soon be arriving atChevrolet dealers nationwide as General Motors makes the plug-in hybrid electric car available to all fifty states before the end of this year.
But on year on from the launch of the 2011 ChevroletVolt, what are the differences between the 2011 and 2012 models?
Here’s our list of things that you need to know about the revised 2012 Chevrolet Volt
How it works
The 2012 Chevrolet Volt is a range-extended plug-inhybrid. Using a small battery pack, it can operate for up to 35 miles in all-electric mode everywhere from city streets through to the freeway.
But when its battery pack is depleted, the Volt’s 1.4 liter gasoline engine kicks in, powering a generator capable of producing up to 55 kilowatts to run its 111kilowatt electric motor for a total range of 379 miles.
The Volt can also be run in ‘mountain mode’ -- allowing the driver to force the Volt to use both gasoline and battery power in situations when the car will be operating under heavy load for many miles.
Charging
2011 Chevrolet Volt charging port
2011 Chevrolet Volt charging port
As the 2012 Chevrolet Volt is a car which can operate from either electricity or gasoline, its battery pack is a lot smaller than all-electric cars like the 2012 NissanLeaf.
At just 16 kilowatt-hours in size, the Volt’s battery pack can charge from empty in 10 hours or less using a standard 110-volt charging cord plugged into a domestic power outlet, or in around 4 hours using a suitable level 2 J1772 compliant charging station.
Pricing, options
At $39,995, the base-level 2012 Chevrolet Volt is over $1,000 cheaper than the base-level 2011 Volt -- but it has less standard features than its predecessor.
The Satellite navigation and DVD entertainment system featured as standard on the 2011 Volt is now offered as a $1,995 premium option for the 2012 Volt.
Also reduced on the 2012 Chevrolet Volt is the car’s OnStar coverage. Dropped to 3 years complimentary coverage from the 5 years offered with the 2011 Chevrolet Volt, owners of the 2012 Chevrolet Volt will have to pay an additional $299 per year for the additional coverage.
So although the 2012 Volt has a lower base price and larger, more impressive options list than the year before anyone wanting a Volt with the same specifications as the previous year’s $41,000 base model will find themselves shelling out an shattering $43,083.
Driving, handling
2011 Chevrolet Volt drive test, March 2011
2011 Chevrolet Volt drive test, March 2011
Although we’ve not driven the 2012 Chevrolet Volt, its driving experience will be identical to the 2011 Chevrolet Volt.
We’ve found the Volt to provide a very impressive driving experience thanks to excellent road manners and its T-shaped battery pack providing a very low center of gravity.
Cabin noise is noticeably quiet too -- both with and without the Volt’s range extending gasoline engine running. Part of that is down to the way in which the Volt’s engine works in range-extended mode. Rather than rise and fall with the speed of the car, it operates within a very narrow band of engine speeds -- making it easy for engineers at chevrolet to design acoustic dampening to keep noise minimal inside the cabin.
We also love the Volt’s “Low” setting on its “transmission selector”. Paired with the “Sport” power mode, it’s possible to drive the Chevrolet Volt without really even touching the brake pedal in what we lovingly title “The Volt’s Tesla Setting”.

Enough talk about what cars of the future might bring.
The future is here.
It's the 2012 Audi A6. This car boasts all those long talked-about features cars could, should or will eventually have. It's a mobile hotspot. It boasts radar and night vision. It's got Google maps. And this sedan comes wrapped in leather and a wood-grain trim so nice that I want it as the floor in my house.
Put a gallon of gas in the tank and it will haul you 28 miles down the highway. It does nearly everything but fly.
Well, that's not entirely true. As graceful and serene as the A6 may look with those doe-eyed LED headlamps, it screams down the road.

The eight-speed automatic transmission glides through the gears with precision and power. The A6 can go from red light to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds.

Boosted by a high-tech 3-liter supercharged V-6 that generates 310 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, the A6 quickly reminds the driver that performance was never sacrificed in this luxury sedan. The engine uses a supercharger placed in the middle of the V to create pressure up to 11.6 psi. Two intercoolers help and Audi's direct injection system keeps everything running smoothly. (There's a slight lag that's noticeable with aggressive driving, but that's just the surprise of acceleration.)
And then there's Audi's legendary all-wheel drive, simply known as Quattro. Working in conjunction with the adjustable suspension (there are four settings available from boy racer to fat cat; Audi calls them: comfort, auto, dynamic and individual, which you can adjust yourself.)
The chassis is as futuristic as any contraption H.G. Wells could dream up. The aluminum construction (Audi estimates that 20 percent of the A6 is aluminum) and hot-shaped steel help the A6 shed 78 pounds over its predecessor (though it has added a number of features over the outgoing model) and still have a stiffer body. Overall, the A6 tips the scales at just over two tons.
That weight is never noticeable on the road, where the A6 feels sure-footed and agile. It's still a big sedan; it just never acts like one.

The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is still a fresh, frenetic memory, but I've spent the last two days driving some of BMW's newest hardware up and down California's central coast. Between clipping canyon apexes and whirring along in high-tech quietude, it became clear: the new 6er coupe is about more than just better looks.

Power, of course, is ample. The 400-horsepower, 450-pound-feet of torque twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 does its job even more readily and forcefully than in the new Convertible, thanks to its lighter weight--several hundred pounds were saved in the hard top even though the Convertible was designed from the ground-up as its own body-in-white. The adjustable ride and transmission/throttle controls offer four settings ranging from relaxed freeway cruise to sharp-edged corner hustler, but even the sportiest isn't beyond the pale for most in ride quality or harshness.

That balance between sporting capability and ride quality is something BMW, and the new 650i Coupe in particular, does very well in comparison to much of the competition. Four-wheel steering that helps rotate the car at lower speeds and makes it more stable at higher speeds also adds to the 650i's marriage of capability and ease. At the outer limits of sanity on a canyon run, however, even this advanced blend of comfort and pace can't hide the fact that the 2012 650i Coupe isn't the lightest of vehicles (it weighs 4,233 pounds), and the steering lacks some of the feel you'll find in the more sport-focused BMWs. Even so, it's engaging and fun when you want to push it quickly through a canyon, but clearly more in its element in the fast, long, sweeping curves of a more open road.

The Lexus LS 460 soldiers on into the 2012 model year with minimal updates, with both the standard LS 460 and long-wheelbase LS 460 L remaining, and once again offered with the option of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive configurations.

The only change for the 2012 model year is the introduction of Nebula Gray Pearl instead of Smoky Granite Mica.

Power still comes from a 4.6-liter V-8 engine rated at 380 horsepower and 367 pound-feet of torque. However, if you opt for the all-wheel drive model this dips to 357 horsepower and 344 pound-feet of torque.

An eight-speed automatic also remains, helping the big sedan accelerate from 0-60 mph in a brisk 5.4 seconds. Opt for the all-wheel drive model and you’ll take 5.9 seconds for the same sprint.

Fuel economy comes in at an EPA-rated 16/24 mpg city/highway rating, 16 city/23 highway for the all-wheel drive.

An available Sport Package adds 19-inch alloys, as well as Brembo brakes, stiffer suspension, a distinctive bodykit and paddle shifters for the automatic transmission.

Luxury features include an available 19-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, Lexus Enform telematics and connectivity, massage functions, Alcantara trim, eight airbags, and an array of safety sensors.

Export Mercedes Benz World Wide at US Auto Enterprises Call 1-888-705-6787

Thanks to a number of leaked photos and a slew of spy shots, we saw this coming. However, that doesn’t make the official release of details on the 2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class any less important. The new compact makes its debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show boasting an all-new look, powertrain, and platform.
As has long been reported, the B-Class it is the first production model to use the automaker’s new MFA (Mercedes Front Architecture) front-wheel drive platform. The MFA replaces the previous sandwich-floor platform that the current A- and B-Class hatchbacks use, and is a modular architecture that can be enlarged, adapted for all-wheel-drive, and compatible with many different body styles and powertrain options. Other vehicles to come from the MFA are the next A-Class (previewed by the Concept A-Class shown earlier this year at the New York auto show), a small crossover to do battle with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3, and a CLS-inspired four-door coupe.

Aesthetically, the 2012 B-Class blends cues cribbed from the Concept A-Class and the previous B-Class. It maintains an upright greenhouse and short nose, along with large headlights and a prominent grille. Around back, the flat hatch bears similar taillights to the outgoing model, although they are LED-powered and a little more artistic than before. Inside, the cabin sports large, circular air vents, a infotainment screen placed high in the dash, and horizontal, flowing lines to convey a feeling of openness and luxury.

The 2012 B-Class will be available for the first time with Mercedes’ seven-speed automatic transmission, though an all-new six-speed manual will also be offered. Either of the transmissions can be mated to the buyer’s choice of gasoline and diesel inline-four-cylinder offerings. Gas-powered offerings include two forms of the direct-injection 1.6-liter I-4, and are rated at 122 hp and 156 hp. Diesel options include two variants of Mercedes’ 1.8-liter common-rail diesel, rated at 109 and 136 hp, respectively.

As promised, the B-Class is packed full of advanced features typically found in larger vehicles. Standard equipment includes a radar-based collision avoidance system; Attention Assist which detects a drowsy driver; and Benz’s Pre-Safe system, which closes windows, tightens belts, and adjusts front seats to prepare occupants for a collision. Two versions of the Comand infotainment system will be offered, both of which are available with Internet connectivity. According to Mercedes, passengers will be able to surf while parked or use voice commands to search Google and Google Maps while in motion..

The 2012 B-Class will make its debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show and will go on sale in Europe this coming November. Whether or not the car will come to the U.S. remains to be seen, but rest assured several variants of the MFA platform are heading our way.

Export Chevy World Wide US Auto Enterprises Call 1-888-705-6787

The Chevrolet Impala has loitered in driveways—and more than a few rental lots—in its current iteration since the 2006 model year, picking up features like E85 capability and handful of new colors along the way. A heretical SS model came and went, too, marking the first instance of a Chevy small block V-8 powering an Impala’s front wheels. Six model years later, someone at Chevrolet must have decided a refresh was in order, and so the Impala receives both a powerful new engine and lightly altered styling for 2012.

The Impala’s looks have been gently warmed over, with an emphasis on “gently.” Malibu-like chrome mesh now adorns the grille and fog-light housings, replacing the horizontal slats on last year’s model. The headlights, bumper, and grille openings remain the same. The base Impala now rides on 16-inch aluminum wheels instead of steelies with hubcaps. (We expect more—and hopefully better—photos by the end of the month; the anticipation is killing us.) The interior of the Impala carries over, although Bluetooth connectivity is now standard on all retail Impalas, and optional on those destined for fleets. For driving impressions of the 2012 Impala, we’d suggest you rent one and experience it for yourself—the press fleets aren’t exactly loaded with the things.

For 2012, Chevrolet has streamlined the Impala’s engine lineup from two ho-hum V-6s to a single, more-modern V-6. To replace the Impala’s two ancient pushrod powerplants—a 3.5-liter making 211 hp and a “range-topping” 3.9-liter pinching out a mere 230—Chevy dipped into the corporate parts bin and plucked out GM’s 3.6-liter direct-injected six, here making 302 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. The 3.6-liter can be found powering everything from the Malibu to the Cadillac CTS, and in this application pushes out just 1 hp and 71 lb-ft fewer than did the Impala SS’s 5.3-liter V-8, which was discontinued for 2010. Chevrolet also saw fit to upgrade the Impala’s transmission, yanking out the old-school four-speed slushbox and dropping in a six-speed automatic. The new engine and transmission should net the Impala improved fuel-economy numbers, but we’ll have to wait for its official EPA rating for the exact amount. The large sedan currently achieves 19 mpg city and 29 highway with the smaller 3.5-liter V-6, which isn’t terrible for a ton-and-a-half cruiser. In the somewhat heavier Buick LaCrosse, the 3.6/six-speed combo produces less power than it will here but only returns 17 mpg city and 27 highway.
