The following is a review for the 2011 Lincoln Navigator.

The Navigator is Lincoln's full-size luxury SUV that can seat up to eight people in three rows. Related to the Ford Expedition, the SUV is also available in long-wheelbase Navigator L form. Competitors include the Cadillac Escalade and Infiniti QX56.

New for 2011
A voice-controlled navigation system with HD radio technology and Sirius Travel Link is now standard instead of optional for the Navigator, which also gets free maintenance for the first 12 months or 15,000 miles.

Exterior
The Navigator's most prominent feature is its grille. It's an eggcrate design with a large horizontal bar running through the Lincoln logo. Flanking the grille are standard xenon headlights. Exterior features include:

    Standard capless fuel system
    Standard rain-sensing wipers
    Standard power liftgate
Standard 18-inch aluminum wheels; 20-inch chrome rims optional
    Optional moonroof

Interior
The leather-upholstered heated-and-cooled front seats include power adjustments, and there are adjustable pedals to add to driver comfort. Wood accents are found throughout the cabin. Second-row captain's chairs are standard, but a split-bench seat can be substituted at no extra charge. There's a standard power-folding third-row seat.

The Navigator also comes standard with Ford's Sync voice-operated entertainment and information system and MyKey, which gives buyers the ability to set maximum speed and volume limits based on the key that's in use — handy for parents sharing the Navigator with a teen driver. Power-lowering running boards are standard, too. Interior features include:

    Seats seven or eight
    Standard Sync voice-activated multimedia system
    Standard backup camera
    Standard heated second-row bucket seats
Standard Sirius Satellite Radio with 14-speaker audio system
Optional backseat entertainment system with 8-inch screen

Under the Hood
The Navigator has standard V-8 power and is available with rear- or four-wheel drive. Mechanical features include:

    310-horsepower, 5.4-liter V-8 that makes 365 pounds-feet of torque
    Six-speed automatic transmission
    Runs on regular gas
9,000-pound (RWD) or 8,700-pound (4WD) towing capacity when properly equipped

Safety
The standard electronic stability system includes trailer sway control, which can detect if a trailer is out of control and apply the brakes or reduce engine power.

Standard safety features include:

    Antilock brakes
Electronic stability system with Roll Stability Control and trailer sway control
    Side-impact airbags for front-seat occupants
Side curtain airbags for all three rows of seats
    Front and rear parking sensors
