The following is a review for the 2011 GMC Yukon

GMC's Yukon XL is the brand's flagship SUV, available in base half-ton (1500) and three-quarter-ton (2500) versions and a top-of-the-line Denali trim. The Yukon XL is available with a choice of V-8 engines, some of which feature fuel-management systems that deactivate four cylinders during low-load situations. The Yukon XL is closely related to its GM cousin, the Chevrolet Suburban; the only other extra-long full-size SUV is the Ford Expedition EL.

Exterior features include:

    Standard power heated side mirrors
    Chrome honeycomb grille (Denali)
    Optional power liftgate

The Yukon XL is available with rear- or four-wheel drive. The Yukon Denali can have a permanent all-wheel-drive system that's distinct from the available part-time four-wheel drive on the regular Yukon.

There is an integrated brake controller option, which provides proper brake-force signaling to a trailer's brake systems, and a heavy-duty trailering package. Yukon XL 2500 models replace the five-link coil-spring suspension with heavy-duty multileaf springs. A hydraulic brake booster in the 2500 model supplements the braking system with additional pressure. The 2012 Volkswagen CC Review – Reliable Comfort for Drivers

The 2012 Volkswagen CC combines the creature comforts of a four-passenger luxury sedan with the look and attitude of a sports coupe; the resulting vehicle is the perfect blend of modern convenience and sleek styling in a practical, fuel-efficient package. Available in four trim levels, the Volkswagen CC is one of the standouts in its class, but its limited passenger space may make the CC an impractical choice for larger families.

Under the hood
The Volkswagen CC Sport, R-Line and Lux models feature a peppy four-cylinder engine that delivers a respectable 200 horsepower. The CC VR6 4Motion ups the ante with a six-cylinder that boosts the available horsepower to 280 and produces torque of up to 265 lb-ft, making it the performance choice in the CC line.

Inside the cabin
The CC stands for Comfort Coupe and the array of standard features available on the 2012 Volkswagen CC bears out this claim. Power steering, locks and windows and an air conditioning system with pollen filter are all standard equipment, as is an eight-speaker touchscreen sound system with Bluetooth and auxiliary inputs for audio devices. The Volkswagen CC Lux also includes the RNS 315 navigation system as a standard feature as well as an available technology package that includes a DVD player, upgraded navigation screen and rearview camera.

On the road
The sports-tuned suspension of the 2012 Volkswagen CC ensures a smooth, comfortable ride even on bumpy terrain. While lacking the performance of a true sports coupe, the Volkswagen CC is fun to drive and offers adequate speed and acceleration, especially with the additional power of the VR6 4Motion trim level. The transmission handles upshifting and downshifting with ease and rigid construction ensures that the CC handles all the curves the road provides.

Conclusions
In the mid-range of pricing for luxury sedans, the 2012 Volkswagen CC sets itself apart with German engineering and an outstanding list of standard features. While somewhat uninspiring in the performance department, it handles well in a variety of road conditions and provides solid fuel economy in a sedan of its size. However, the limited passenger space and cargo room will limit its appeal for most families and corporate uses.

The following is a review for the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover HSE.

Land Rover's Range Rover SUV is offered with a supercharged V-8 or a naturally aspirated V-8, both derived from Jaguar engines that use drive-by-wire throttle control. It occupies a unique corner of the market; its closest competitor is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The Range Rover Sport model is listed separately in the Cars.com Research section.

New for 2011
For 2011, changes are minor. The exterior styling is slightly revised, and a few new features are added. An Autobiography Black 40th Anniversary Limited Edition model is new. It has unique 20-inch alloy wheels, distinctive interior and exterior styling enhancements, unique interior and exterior badging, and an exclusive exterior paint color dubbed Barolo Black.

Exterior
The Range Rover gets a few minor tweaks, but the overall appearance doesn't change much. Ground clearance measures 8.7 inches, but that can rise for off-road treks. Exterior features include:

    Clamshell hood
    Horizontally split tailgate
    19- or 20-inch alloy wheels

Interior
The Range Rover seats up to five. The interior can be trimmed in luxurious leather and genuine wood. On uplevel models, power-reclining rear seats are now available, and on the Autobiography Black 40th Anniversary Limited Edition, those seats have winged headrests and are heated and cooled. Interior features include:

    Standard three-zone automatic air conditioning
Standard touch-screen navigation with Bluetooth compatibility
    Optional backseat DVD entertainment system
    Optional backup camera

The following is a review on the new 2011 Jaguar XJ.

Jaguar redesigned its flagship sedan, the XJ, for the 2010 model year, giving it an exterior and interior design in the style of the XF sedan, along with the new engines. The XJ competes in the full-size luxury class along with the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS 460 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The 2010 XJ comes in four models: XJ, XJL (long wheelbase), Supercharged and Supersport. Supersport models are available by special order only.

New for 2011
There are no significant changes.

Exterior
Jaguar has finally given tradition a rest, abandoning the classic four-headlight front-end design that dates back decades — and that had long appeared unchanged to the untrained eye despite a complete redesign in 2004. The nose is a more balanced execution of the XF's prominent mesh grille and sculpted headlight clusters. The hood is dramatically domed and creased, an apparent trend across the market.

Viewed from the rear, the XJ would be indistinguishable as a Jaguar were it not for the large and perfectly centered chrome "leaper" emblem. The taillights look like someone grabbed a Bentley by the tail and stretched it vertically. The car looks coupe-like in profile, with a gradually sloping roofline, high rear deck and high belt line. It's more Mercedes-Benz CLS than 2009 XJ. A notable feature is the blacked-out C-pillars (the pillars that flank the rear window). They give a floating-roof look that's drawn mixed reviews.

Exterior features include:

    19-inch wheels
    Rear spoiler
    Optional adaptive headlights

Interior
The interior also got the full XF treatment, with a more modern design, piano-black and chrome surfaces, the JaguarDrive gear selector that motors up from the center console, and virtual gauges on a 12.3-inch display. Though the tech is high, the gauges still appear as classic analog, though different instruments can be emphasized based on conditions. It's a mix of old and new, which the interior as a whole attempts to accomplish with familiar rich leather, as well as wood trim that runs in a continuous line from the door panels across the top of the dashboard. Interior features include:

    Standard panoramic glass roof
XJL models offer 5 more inches of backseat legroom
    Standard leather-wrapped steering wheel
    Standard leather-covered dashboard
Standard heated and ventilated front seats
    Optional ventilated rear seats
Optional carbon fiber dash and door insert

Under the Hood
Though the XJ shares its direct-injection power plants and six-speed automatic transmission with the XF, Jaguar says the larger XJ's swift sprints come courtesy of a similar aerodynamic drag coefficient and lightweight aluminum construction. Mechanical features include:

    Standard 5.0-liter V-8 rated at 385 horsepower
Supercharged  5.0-liter engines make 470 hp in the Supercharged trim level and 510 hp in the Supersport
Standard air-spring suspension that varies firmness as conditions dictate

Safety
Safety features include:

    Standard antilock brakes
    Standard electronic stability system
Standard front seat belts that cinch up under heavy braking or aggressive cornering

Export Hyundai All Models World Wide Delivery Call 1-888-705-6787

The following is a review for the new 2012 Hyundai Genesis.

Introduced for 2009, Hyundai's Genesis full-size sedan aims at established luxury cars like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class with its rear-wheel-drive layout, available V-8 power and upscale features. Other primary competitors include the Ford Taurus, Chrysler 300 and Toyota Avalon.

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe, a sport-oriented rear-drive car, is covered in a separate report in the Cars.com Research section.

New for 2012
Following a slight bump in horsepower to the 4.6-liter V-8 for 2011, Hyundai has made more changes to the Genesis' available drivetrains for 2012. The base V-6 is now rated at 333 hp, a 43-hp gain, and another V-8 has been added to the engine offerings. A new 429-hp V-8 goes in the 5.0 R-Spec model, which is a new performance-oriented version of the full-size sedan. In addition, the Genesis gains some mild exterior styling tweaks.

Exterior
The Genesis doesn't break new ground with its exterior styling, but it manages to look upscale, if a bit conservative. Changes for 2012 include a wider opening in the lower front bumper, a slightly different look to the grille and new headlights with LEDs (on R-Spec models, the headlights have dark chrome accents). The taillights have a new look, too, and the car gains power-folding side mirrors. Exterior features include:

    17-, 18- or 19-inch wheels available
Optional adaptive headlights that swivel in the direction of turns
    Standard heated side mirrors
    Standard fog lights

Interior
The influence of the luxury segment can be seen in the design of the Genesis' cabin. The middle of the dash bulges outward like the one on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Hyundai has picked up on the German luxury brands' fascination with integrated control knobs with a system that's used to operate one of the available navigation systems (a touch-screen navigation system is also offered). Interior features include:

    Standard XM Satellite Radio
    Standard Bluetooth cell phone connectivity
    Standard USB audio input
Standard leather upholstery and power front seats
    Standard heated front seats
    Optional cooled driver's seat
    Optional heated rear seats
    Optional leather dashboard
    Optional power sunshade

Under the Hood
Genesis buyers have the choice of a V-6 or two V-8 engines. The Genesis is rear-wheel drive, and all of the engines team with an eight-speed automatic transmission that improves gas mileage. Mechanical features include:

    333-hp, 3.8-liter V-6 that makes 291 pounds-feet of torque
385-hp, 4.6-liter V-8 that makes 333 pounds-feet of torque on premium gas (slight decrease in performance on regular gas)
    429-hp, 5.0-liter V-8 that makes 376 pounds-feet of torque on premium gas
5.0 R-Spec adds larger front and rear stabilizer bars, special 19-inch alloy wheels and optional summer performance tires

Safety
Standard features include:

Antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist
    Electronic stability system
Side-impact airbags for the front and rear seats
Side curtain airbags and front active head restraints
Optional front and rear parking sensors, backup camera, and lane-departure warning

Export Honda All Models World Wide Delivery Call 1-888-705-6787

The following is a review for the new 2011 Honda Pilot.

The 2011 Honda Pilot returns mostly unchanged from last year. Navigation is now available on the EX-L trim level and a rear entertainment system is now included on the Touring model.
Introduction

At a glance, the 2011 Honda Pilot would seem to do a fine job as a family hauler. There's plenty of space for kids and cargo, it boasts excellent crash scores and comes with Honda's sterling reputation for reliability. Yet, there are three key areas that send the Pilot to the back of the pack: its sluggish acceleration, weak brake performance and middling fuel economy. Any one on their own could be forgivable, but together, they conspire to set this Pilot adrift in a sea of very worthy competitors.

On the bright side, Honda has made a point of giving the Pilot third-row accommodations roomy enough for actual adults to fit back there; if you're looking for a minivan alternative, this one might just work out. Traditional Pilot traits like a well-cushioned ride, a smooth powertrain and optional four-wheel drive are also present and accounted for. This year's sees only minor changes in a couple of feature availabilities -- navigation is now an option on EX-L models and a rear DVD entertainment system is now included on the top-of-the-line Touring trim.

In sum, we think the 2011 Honda Pilot is an adequate choice for a midsize or large crossover SUV. But more savvy consumers who test-drive the competition will likely find that the Pilot comes up a bit short -- sterling reputation or not. The Ford Flex is a great all-around contender in this arena, offering a more comfortable interior, more features and improved performance. The Chevrolet Traverse (and its Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia twins), Hyundai Veracruz, Mazda CX-9 and Toyota Highlander are also solid picks. It might seem atypical to say it, but this Honda just isn't a very competitive pick in its class.
Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2011 Honda Pilot is a midsize crossover SUV offered in four trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. Each is available with either front- or all-wheel drive. The LX comes standard with 17-inch steel wheels, keyless entry, rear privacy glass, a trailer hitch, automatic headlights, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, front and rear air-conditioning, 60/40-split second- and third-row seats, and a seven-speaker audio system with an auxiliary audio jack and CD/MP3 player.

The EX adds 17-inch alloy wheels, foglights, painted body molding (versus black plastic), roof rails, heated exterior mirrors, an eight-way power driver seat (with two-way power lumbar), steering-wheel audio controls, tri-zone automatic climate control, an in-dash six-CD changer, and satellite radio. The EX-L upgrades to leather upholstery and steering wheel, heated front seats, power passenger seat, a sunroof, increased sound deadening, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with integrated back-up camera. Optional on the EX-L is a rear-seat DVD entertainment system and a voice-activated navigation system bundled with Bluetooth, an iPod interface and a 10-speaker premium audio system.

Both the EX-L's optional features are included on the high-end Touring model, which further adds a power liftgate, tire-pressure indicators, driver memory functions and rear-window sunshades.
Powertrains and Performance

The 2011 Honda Pilot is motivated by a 3.5-liter V6 that generates 250 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed automatic is the only available transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all Pilot models are available with an all-wheel-drive system that automatically apportions power to the rear wheels -- up to 70 percent -- when front slippage occurs. This system also has a driver-selectable "lock" feature that routes maximum torque to the rear wheels at speeds below 19 mph.

In performance testing, we clocked a Pilot Touring from zero to 60 mph in a pokey 9.7 seconds, a full second or two behind many rivals. Fuel economy is aided by Honda's Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system, which shuts down half of the V6's cylinders when they're not needed. Still the Pilot's EPA estimates of 17 city/23 highway mpg and 19 mpg combined (16/22/18 for AWD models) are merely average for this segment.

Export KIA All Models World Wide Delivery Call 1-888-705-6787

The following is a review of the new 2012 KIA Sorento.

While the 2.4-liter direct injected gasoline engine being added to the 2012 Sorento is physically the same engine found under the hood of Leftlane’s long-term Sonata – and every other standard 2011 Sonata for that matter – Kia has re-tuned the engine specifically for SUV duty.

What this means is that the 200 horsepower (at 6,300 rpm), 186 lb-ft or torque (at 4,250 rpm) ratings are actually brought down slight at their peaks to 191 horsepower,181 lb-ft of torque at the same rpms. Kia says that the changes will deliver a broader torque curve across the more usable powerband, despite the peak sacrifices, which better suits the heavier SUV.

This new engine will be one of three total engines, leaving the standard 175 horsepower, 169 lb-ft of torque base four-cylinder engine and the optional 3.5-liter, 276 horsepower, 248 lb-ft of torque V6. Mileage for the new GDI engine will come in at 22 city, 32 highway in front-wheel drive form, besting the base engine’s fuel economy by one city, three highway miles per gallon.

Other changes for the 2012 model year include available power folding side mirrors, a chrome dual exhaust tip for the GDI-powered models, new five-spoke hyper finish wheel design for EX models and an added stainless step pad for the SX model.

Inside, Kia has added anti-soiling, anti-static and antibacterial fabrics throughout. Also new is the standard application of UVO, Kia’s latest telematics system, on the EX trim level. The EX model also gains updated interior illumination, optional memory driver’s seat with four-way adjustable passenger seat and ventilated and cooled seats and optional three-position heated seats.

The SX trim level gains standard heated and wood trim steering wheel, seat foot cover, coat hook and upgraded A- and B-pillar trim from vinyl to cloth. The SX also gains standard rear sonar, which wasn’t even available previously for this trim level.

Base model pricing starts at $21,250, jumping to $23,150 for LX, $25,950 for EX and $33,150 for SX – none of which include the mandatory $800 destination charge.

The following is a review on the new 2012 Jeep Gran Cherokee SRT8

Offering 465 horsepower and 465 lb-ft. of torque, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is by far the most powerful Jeep ever offered. As a result, Jeep says that it should be capable of sprinting to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds with a mid-13 second quarter mile figure. Top speed is limited to 155 mph.

That power comes courtesy of an all-new 6.4-liter HEMI V8 that builds on the outgoing 6.1-liter model by offering an additional 45 horsepower and 45 lb-ft. of torque. Chrysler says that its engineers worked especially hard to make 90 percent of the engine’s peak torque available between 2,800 and 6,000 rpm.

To reduce fuel consumption, an active valve exhaust system cuts out four cylinders, which Jeep says helps increase fuel economy by 13 percent on the highway. Combined with a large gas tank, Jeep says the Grand Cherokee SRT8 should be capable of a 450 mile range.

Inside, the Grand Cherokee SRT8 gains steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters to control the five-speed automatic transmission.

Jeep says it worked hard to further refine the Grand Cherokee SRT8′s handling by building on the all-new WK2 platform with a new Selec-Track traction-enhancing system. With a name that conjures up images of Jeep’s SelecTrac transfer case, the new Selec-Track interacts with the stability control, adaptive damping, transmission shift strategy, transfer case torque proportioning, electronic limited slip differential, throttle control and cylinder de-activation. Five modes – Auto, Sport, Tow, Track and Snow – ensure ideal traction for any situation. Unlike the previous Grand Cherokee SRT8, the new SUV is designed to be used year round for a variety of uses – even towing.

A single-speed transfer case sends power between the front and rear wheels. Uprated power steering and Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes help the Grand Cherokee maintain control. Jeep says that the new SUV will stop from 60 mph in just 112 feet.

Styling
The 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 is more aggressive looking than before with exclusive front and rear fascias with LED daytime running lamps and chrome bezel inserts completing the look.

A new rear liftgate spoiler is designed to reduce drag and improve downforce at high speeds.

Riding on split five-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels, the Grand Cherokee SRT8 will be available with either all-season or three-season Pirelli P-Zero runflat tires.

Inside, the SRT team upgraded the Grand Cherokee’s interior with a three-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom, Nappa leather and suede seats and extensive carbon fiber accents. The following is a review on the new 2012 Lexus LFA

We've heard a few figures bandied about since the Lexus LFA was introduced, but now the official price tag for the U.S.-bound supercar has been announced. Base price: $375,000. And that's not including the unspecified destination and handling fees.

That MSRP has the potential to swell when you start adding the options, but for the 552-horsepower supercoupe's discerning clientele, it won't matter. In stock form (Configuration 1) buyers have the option to coat their thrones in either leather or Alcantara, with Configuration 2 bringing navigation and the stellar Mark Levinson surround-sound system. Option up for Configuration 3 and all the aforementioned goodies are yours, along with the Lexus Enform system with Safety Connect.

Of the 500 LFAs set to go into production this December, less than half are slated to make their way to the States when deliveries begin in January, and even if you've got a cool $400k burning a hole in your pocket, you can't buy the LFA outright. To thwart speculators, Lexus is only making the LFA available on a two-year lease with a firm intent to purchase. If you've got the means, make the jump for the official details.

Configuration 1 – Leather or Alcantara®-trimmed seats.

Configuration 2 – Leather or Alcantara-trimmed seats, Lexus Navigation System and Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound system.

Configuration 3 – Leather or Alcantara-trimmed seats, Lexus Navigation System, Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound system, and Lexus Enform™ with Safety Connect™. Customers will be able to customize the LFA with 30 exterior colors, six brake caliper colors, and 12 interior colors. Some choices carry an additional cost.

The Lexus LFA is exclusively powered by a sophisticated new high-revving 4.8-liter V10 engine that generates 552 horsepower at 8,700 rpm and 354 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 6,800 rpm. The engine is mated to a unique six-speed Automated Sequential Gearbox (ASG) with paddle shifters that enables ultra-quick gear shifts (0.2 seconds) with four driving modes – AUTO, SPORT, NORMAL and WET for exceptional versatility.

Lexus' supercar accelerates from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds and achieves a maximum speed of 202 mph thanks to an independently controlled throttle body for each cylinder, high-volume 12-hole injectors, dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), low-friction engine components, and equal length exhaust manifolds.

Lightweight, powerful and balanced, the LFA features advanced Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) construction for its chassis and bodywork to deliver a light, incredibly strong and impact-resistant structure. To help provide superior handling and braking and traction control the LFA features track-tuned lightweight aluminum alloy suspension components; six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers to grip the Carbon Ceramic Material (CCM) brake rotors; and a specially calibrated Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system.

The low-slung LFA exudes supercar styling with Lexus design philosophy in one cohesive form. Its clean, muscular and athletic design is complemented by extraordinary aerodynamics for optimal drivetrain cooling and superb high-speed handling. Its incredible exhaust note is possible by the multi-stage exhaust system that exits through a stacked trio of exhaust outlets. The LFA's exterior styling is further enhanced with BBS® 20-inch forged-aluminum 10-spoke wheels available in three different finishes.

"After years of development, Lexus is able to offer driving enthusiasts an exciting and exclusive combination of performance and luxury in a sleek supercar package. It's thrilling to know that in about a year, you just might see one driving down the street," said Templin.

Export Ford All Models World Wide Call 1-888-705-6787

The 2012 Ford Focus is a compact car that's available in sedan and four-door hatchback body styles. There are four trim levels available: S, SE, SEL and Titanium.

The S model, which is only offered as a sedan, comes with 15-inch steel wheels; keyless entry; air-conditioning; power front windows; power locks and mirrors; a height-adjustable driver seat; a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel; and a four-speaker sound system with a CD player and auxiliary audio jack. Move up to the SE and you get 16-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, front foglights, a rear spoiler (hatchback only), rear power windows, a trip computer, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls and Ford's MyKey parental controls. The hatchback is pretty similar but gets a 60/40 split-folding seatback (versus one solid folding seatback) and a removable cargo cover.

The optional Convenience package for the Focus SE adds cruise control and map lights. The SE Sport package adds a sport-tuned suspension, 16-inch alloy wheels, rear disc brakes, a rear spoiler (sedan), upgraded exterior and interior trim, sport seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Also optional is a six-speaker audio system bundled with Ford's Sync cell phone and iPod interface.

The SEL model adds one-touch up/down power windows, multicolor ambient lighting and most of the SE's optional features, minus the sport-tuned suspension. Spring for the Titanium model and you get 17-inch alloy wheels, the sport-tuned suspension, upgraded exterior and interior trim, a rear spoiler (sedan), keyless ignition/entry, MyFord Touch technology with an 8-inch center touchscreen and Wi-Fi capability, and a 10-speaker Sony audio system with satellite radio and HD radio. MyFord Touch and the Sony system are optional on the SEL.

The Titanium Premium package adds rear parking sensors, automatic wipers, a six-way power driver seat, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a rear armrest. The Titanium Handling package adds 18-inch wheels, an upgraded sport-tuned suspension, a full-size spare and summer tires.

Optional on all but the S is the Winter package, which adds heated front seats and heated mirrors with side marking lamps. The SEL and Titanium can be had with the Parking Technology package, which adds front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera and an automated parking system. Optional only on the SE sedan is a Super Fuel Economy (SFE) package, which adds 16-inch steel wheels with aero wheel covers, low-rolling-resistance tires, rear disc brakes and a rear spoiler.
Powertrains and Performance

Under the hood, the front-wheel-drive 2012 Ford Focus has a new 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that puts out 160 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque. Entry-level S and SE models get a five-speed manual transmission standard, while a six-speed automatic transmission that Ford has dubbed "Powershift" (technically, it's a dual-clutch automated manual) is standard on SEL and Titanium trim levels. It is optional on the S and SE.

In Edmunds performance testing, a Focus Titanium with the automatic went from zero to 60 mph in 8.7 seconds -- on par with similarly powered cars in the class. Official EPA estimates weren't available as of this writing, but Ford engineers say they expect the car should return about 40 mpg on the highway cycle when fitted with the optional Super Fuel Economy option package. The conventional Focus should get about 38 mpg on the EPA highway test.

Export Chevrolet All Models World Wide Delivery Call 1-888-705-6787

The year is nearly halfway through, and automakers are starting to release specs for 2012 models. Chevrolet is already reporting updates for the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro.

In a press release, GM writes that it will give the 2012 Camaro an “improved version of its standard 3.6L direct injection V-6 engine, a new FE4 performance suspension package for SS coupes and several interior and technology improvements, such as a revised instrument panel design, new steering wheel and rear camera system.” The V6 engine will produce 323 horsepower, 11 more than the 2011 engine. This engine, called the LFX, is 20.5 pounds lighter and averages 30 mpg on the highway, which is what the 2011 model got. Reviewers haven’t tested the latest LFX because it hasn’t gone into production yet, but we’ll update you when test drives emerge.

For now, the automotive industry is looking forward to these updates. “There were a number of complaints with the Chevrolet Camaro when it finally reached reality after years as a well-known concept,” writes Kicking Tires. “For the 2012 model year, a few complaints have been addressed with upgrades to interior materials as well as a backup camera to help with coupe’s poor visibility.”

If you want a more standout muscle car, Chevrolet will release the 45th Anniversary Camaro this summer. This model will get the same changes as the base model, but according to Chevrolet, it will have “additional unique design elements, inside and out.” These include hood and deck stripes, a rear spoiler and HID headlamps, black leather seats and the 45th Anniversary logo on the steering wheel, seats and door inserts. Naturally, this model will cost more than the base Camaro, which started at $22,680 for the 2011 model year, but Chevrolet hasn’t released pricing data.

The updated 2012 Camaro and 45th Anniversary Special Edition go on sale this summer.

Export BMW X3, X5, & X6 Models on Sale Call 1-888-705-6787

Jun 28, 2011 – It's hard to believe the 2012 BMW X3 is almost here. The BMW X3 is the Euro-premium soft-roader that got the Europeans thinking crossover instead of sport-utility all the way back in 2003, and we have now arrived at the second iteration. They grow up so fast, don't they?

For the second-generation X3 known internally as "F25," BMW brought us out to a patch of rural Bavaria to thrash around a preproduction vehicle. We were to negotiate some mild off-road stuff, do some splashy stuff and then drive several glass-smooth stretches of two-lane pavement where we would apparently be permitted to gun it while keeping an eye peeled for chickens and horses wearing lederhosen. Of the preproduction units present, we jumped at the new top-of-the-line 2012 BMW X3 xDrive35i.

The first-gen X3 (known as the "E83") stops its build in early August of this year at the Magna Steyr plant in Graz, Austria, and by then, the model will have sold over 600,000 units worldwide, making it the global sales king in its segment. A new production line at BMW's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, is already ramping up for the 2012 BMW X3.

Is Bigger Better?
Until BMW finally started bringing us the 328i sport wagon, the X3 has always been as close as North Americans would ever get to the small, sleek haulers seen hither and yon in Europe. Yet sales figures of the current X3 have been pretty lackadaisical in North America, according to Bernd Hassenjuergen, the X3's marketing boss. Hassenjuergen tells us that the top markets for the X3 have been (in order) Germany, the U.K. and then the United States.

"This new generation X3," Hassenjuergen confides, "needs to flip that around a little to make the U.S. the No. 1 market." As you might have already guessed, the strategy for the new X3 involves making it bigger as a consequence, and now this compact crossover is only a tad smaller than the original X5. But this has also been done to the X3 to help create some marketing space for the BMW X1 crossover now starting deliveries in Europe.

We have to say that the current X3 does come off a little tight in the living-space department, plus there are a few too many bits of cheap plastic and the nonadjustable suspension feels wound up a little too tightly. To make the point, BMW forced us to drive a current X3 xDrive30i from the airport to the event site southeast of Munich. Once we arrived and clambered into the new X3, we noticed the new vehicle's clearly better ingress and egress given the broader overall dimensions and slimmer side sills. Exterior length for the new 2012 BMW X3 grows 3.2 inches, width by 1.2 inches and height by a bit more than half an inch. The wheelbase has been stretched a little more than a half inch as well.

Inside, the room for more American-size bodies has been maximized with a veritable mile of headroom in front and back, plus eight-tenths of an inch more rear knee room. All of this is appreciated and should immediately put this X3 on more shopping lists than the outgoing model managed. Basic cargo room is up to 19.4 cubic feet behind the second-row seat, an increase of almost 3 cubic feet.

Export Porsche Models at US Auto Enterprises.com Call 1-888-705-6787

Jun 17, 2011 – Man, that 494-horsepower Porsche Panamera Turbo you're driving is hot. The best $136,700 you ever spent, eh? Geeze, you even got the $2,440 Sport Chrono Pack Plus, so those 60 mph runs must flash by in 4.0 seconds flat, sometimes less, thanks in no small part to the 567 pound-feet of torque overboost. Damn. There isn't a four-door out there that can even come close. You're the king of the county, sir.

A stop sign appears in the middle of nowhere, and it's time for some safe Launch Control excitement. It would have been nice to opt for the Sport exhaust, yeah, but who needs it? Silly Porsche price-gouging options lists. Pshaw.

But hang on – what just pulled up alongside? Hold on here... another Panamera? And it sounds different. Oh, crap, those 20-inch 911 Turbo II wheels are wrapped in specially concocted performance tires with sidewalls that just read "Michelin." And its got Porsche Exclusive side skirts, thick black-lacquered window trims, and that exhaust. Oh, maaaaaan, it's the Panamera Turbo S you read about. The one with 543 horses and 590 lb-ft of overboost torque. They keep blipping the throttle, too, like they want to play. The whole car is shaking like a bull in the stall at a rodeo. With the specific Sport Chrono Turbo fitted as standard, they say it'll scorch the 60-mph run easily in just 3.6 seconds.

Ah, the power of the letter "S" in Porsche-speak. It all seems so silly, but it's sickeningly important for those select few who are in a position to shop for Porsches. After a quick spin in this $173,200 (+ $975 delivery) Autobahn-breaker, it is clear that, for the moment, nothing comes close that has four doors. Maybe the upcoming latest Mercedes E63 AMG with its 5.5-liter bi-turbo V8 and Performance Pack could make an attempt at wrenching and wringing out the cockles of our high-performance luxury heart, but we doubt it already. The combo of that ungodly awesome Panamera interior, an exterior that always stands apart and is forever growing on us, the "M48" 4.8-liter bi-turbo tuned to its hilt, the sheer feeling of grounded substance while at the wheel, and the four seriously adult seats makes this particular Panamera the pinnacle of the performance sedan world.

2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo S side profile2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo S front2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo S rear

And those who will undoubtedly keep commenting on what an abomination the entire Panamera range is to the hallowed Porsche legend – it's a free country – have obviously never driven or been driven in one. We've just returned from hauling tush on the no-speed limit Autobahns around Munich, Germany in this Turbo S momentum-monger, and, had said doubters been able to accompany us, they'd have cried uncle. We sat smack on the 190-mph limit for three dry runs of more than a few miles each, and the experience sweetened further our own longtime begrudging thoughts regarding the Panamera. Hunkered down in our own "blurred landscape" mode with the Sport Chrono's Sport Plus button lit up and four exhaust tips blaring, in that moment this Porsche was the sweetest of cars.

Apart from intermittent lulls of uncooperative traffic bottlenecks and seriously inclement weather, we didn't want to un-light the Sport Plus button nor soften the Porsche Active Suspension Management much. The press kit tells us that the Porsche Panamera Turbo S weighs in at 4,400 plus pounds, but the onboard tech and chassis setup convince us we're in a really sizable, roaring 911 Turbo S. The inner-ear and seat-of-the-
pants sensations while strafing along curve-loaded two-lanes, or while stretching out everything it's got on the fastest fast lanes of its home turf are so to the extreme.

Something this large handling itself and us so tightly just makes us laugh when we do quick comparos in our head with any Aston Martin. The V12 Vantage is probably the only one capable of staying somewhat even, and it's only got two doors. A Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S couldn't even come close and wouldn't feel anywhere near as calm and collected while trying. Guess we'll have to wait for that promised "everyday" four-door Lamborghini based on the Estoque concept. Ferrari still sighs heavily whenever anyone asks the four-door question. Too bad; Maranello could make a really good one.

Up until driving this S-ified Turbo trim Panamera, we never really obsessed over these big-GT debates. Basically, all things you can order to add to your Panamera Turbo, including the Powerkit Panamera Turbo (normally $21,730), come standard on a Turbo S. The $5,000 (but standard here) anti-sway police provided by Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control works together with the nimble electronically controlled Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus at the rear axle differential to straighten out the most demanding curves.

At this level of heavyweight performance, that the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake system remains an $8,840 option is a bit of a joke. If you want to go to the extremes where this car just took us, PCCB needs to be standard, just as the seven-speed PDK gearbox with its far better paddle-shifting Sport steering wheel and 20-inch wheels (9.5-inch wide front and 11.0-inch wide rear) and sport exhaust are standard. If you want the "composite" aluminum-lead discs, stick with the Turbo without the "S." We'd even say that a six-speed manual gearbox here would work wonders for a small but lucky percentage of drivers.

Calmly urging around the recently tested Panamera S Hybrid versus the drama of chucking around the nearly twice as expensive Turbo S – which incidentally gets the same 23-mpg EPA highway rating as the Turbo – has shown us the tempting extremes of this impeccably executed Porsche.

We'd take any Panamera in a heartbeat over any equivalent-trim Cayenne, even if that might put us in the minority. Go ahead, shower us with your heckling.

The Panamera Turbo S starts North American customer deliveries in late June.

Jun 17, 2011 – It’s a case of better late than never, but Toyota deserves some credit for finally correcting a marketing deficiency by fitting its Lexus-brand IS 350 sport sedan with all-wheel drive.

Granted, this might not seem like an Earth-shattering development, but it does strengthen the IS’s case in the compact sport-luxury sedan segment. You see, during the past decade, this über-competitive segment has seen the number of AWD models swell the existing product mix. For example, take the big three: The Mercedes C-Class has three 4Matic versions (C250, C300 and C350), BMW’s 3 Series has the 328i xDrive and 335i xDrive and Audi only recently added a front-wheel-
drive model to its A4 quattro line. Plus, Infiniti has expanded its G sedan series with the G25 to go with the G37 — both with available AWD. Up until the 2011 model year, however, the Lexus IS line had only the entry-level 250 with available all-wheel drive. Now, the IS 250 AWD is a decent start for those wading into the sport-luxury segment for the first time, but its small engine size (2.5-litre DOHC V6) and horsepower (204) leave it somewhat outgunned as a truly sporty all-weather sedan. Throw in another litre of displacement and an additional 102 horses — as is the IS 350’s specification — and you now have espresso instead of cappuccino.

In AWD form, the IS 350 is an exceedingly agreeable ride. Some armchair quarterbacks think of it as an alternative to the aforementioned BMW 335i xDrive and, indeed, there are enough similarities in size, power, fuel economy and performance to make the case. But, there is also a genteel side to the Lexus that makes it more of a boulevardier, albeit one with a 3.5L V6 packing 306 hp worth of muscle. Don’t get me wrong; genteel does not mean wimpy. The IS 350 AWD has legitimate sporting bona fides. Put your foot into it and the drivetrain hooks up immediately, launching the 1,656-kilogram four-door to 100 kilometres an hour in six seconds. But, as is Lexus’s wont, it’s also equally smooth and quiet — more so than in a Bimmer — which makes it deceptive. On a couple of occasions while on the highway at what I thought was a normal cruising speed, I checked the speedometer and found the car going 20 km/h faster. “But, officer, the car is just so damned silent.”

Being an enthusiast, I’m disappointed that only the rear-wheel-drive IS 250 is available with a six-speed manual transmission. However, as a pragmatist who spends a lot of in-car time dealing with traffic congestion, the IS 350’s six-speed manumatic — with paddle shifters — is an acceptable compromise. Personally, I prefer manually shifting using the console-mounted lever, but Lexus has the IS configured so that upshifts require the lever to be pushed forward, while a tug backward brings downshifts — counterintuitive to my way of thinking. So, to avoid any possibility of executing a downshift when I wanted a higher gear — definitely embarrassing and possibly disastrous, depending on the situation — I used the paddles. The resultant quick, precise shifts proved more than satisfactory.

More than satisfactory also applies to the IS 350 AWD’s handling and road-holding. The sport sedan demonstrates prodigious grip when weather conditions leave the roads greasy. The car’s Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system — which electronically links the vehicle stability and traction control systems as well as the well-weighted electric power steering — is properly sorted out, stepping in to prevent wheel slippage before it results in a slide or skid.

A “mature” car, the second-generation IS has been around since the 2006 model year. Fortunately, due to its passing resemblance to the BMW 3 Series, notably in profile, it has aged well. This year, the line gets updated fog lamps and a new grille design, revised rear backup lights and turn signals as well as a new exhaust pipe tip. Inside, the cabin is a little more dated, lacking the latest gee-whiz graphics and super-high-tech controls. Frankly, I enjoy the simplicity. Besides, the instrument gauges are sharp and bright, the buttons are large enough and properly marked and most everything naturally falls to hand.

My biggest beef with the car remains its lack of rear-seat legroom — at 6-foot-2, I can’t get even attempt to squeeze into the back seat if the front seats are back in their tracks. Yes, it is a compact sedan — emphasis on compact — but this limitation stretches the car’s notion of being a usable four-seater. A lesser but costly annoyance is that the V6 requires premium unleaded, which is outrageously overpriced in relation to regular. My week with the tester resulted in a fuel economy readout of 13.1 litres per 100 kilometres, not terrible considering I gave those 306 ponies a decent workout whenever I could. By comparison, I averaged 12.4 L/100 km when I tested the IS 250 AWD a while back.

At $44,950 (base price), the IS 350 AWD enjoys a significant price advantage over the $52,100 BMW 335i xDrive; not at all against the far roomier $43,450 Infiniti G37x sedan — and the G remains one of my favourite AWD sport sedans.

So, what’s the final tally? Well, AWD makes a lot of sense in our four-season country, and the IS’s system doesn’t detract from the car’s inherent rear-drive handling demeanour. The engine is certainly powerful enough and is smooth as glass. Its ride quality is good and the front-seat accommodations are comfortable.

As a four-seater, the IS 350 makes a great 2+2. It’s been on the market for six years and, although it’s been refreshed a couple of times in the interim, most of its rivals are newer.

Jun 17, 2011 – Though it isn’t set to make its official world debut until this September’s 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, the new 2012 BMW M5 has hit the Internet by way of a leaked report and is already starting to strike terror in the hearts of AMG and RS fans all around the globe. That’s because the latest generation F10 bruiser comes packing a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 developing 552 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque.

Purists may miss the high-rev V-10 of the E60 M5, but the new force-fed V-8 should prove to be much more usable. Its peak torque, yes all 510 pound-feet of twist, arrives at just 1,500 rpm.

This is directly reflected in performance, with the 2012 BMW M5 accelerating from 0-62 mph in just 4.4 seconds versus the previous car’s 4.7 second time. The 0-124 mph run, meanwhile, will take you 13 seconds.

Note that these acceleration figures are with a seven-speed M-DCT dual clutch transmission. A conventional six-speed manual is almost certain to be offered in the U.S. market given the prototypes spotted recently.

Top speed will remain at an electronically limited 155 mph, though an M-Drivers-Package is said to be available, which will lift top speed to a reported 189 mph.

Other details mentioned in the leaked report include an Active M-Differential with torque vectoring between the rear wheels, 20-inch light alloy wheels and a sub-8 minute Nurburgring lap time.

While the car’s official world debut isn’t set to occur until September, the new 2012 BMW M5 will reportedly make an appearance at the M Festival at the Nurburgring 24 Hours endurance race in Germany on June 23.

Export Mercedes-Benz Models at US Auto Enterprises.com Call 1-888-705-6787

Jun 17, 2011 – Don’t brush off the obvious tweaks made to the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan as simply a mid-life makeover — the German automaker has made some significant changes to its popular mid-sized sedan.

The fact Mercedes has spent much of this month ferrying autojournalists to this sun-drenched island 300 kilometres off the west coast of Morocco underscores its desire to spread the word this C-Class is different.

Aside from freshening the face and butt with current design tricks, there are new, more powerful and efficient engines under the hoods of several models, there’s a new, more efficient seven-speed automatic transmission and the interior has been made over to create a more refined look and feel.

Exterior changes readily noticeable include an all-new front end with new active bi-xenon headlights and bright LED turn indicators. And you can add the 2012 C-Class to the growing list of cars adopting those cool LED daytime running lights. The sedan also gets a redesigned front fascia and a new aluminum hood to reduce weight. The tail lights are also trendy LED units and there’s a new rear fascia with an integrated diffuser. A selection of new alloy wheel offerings cap the exterior revisions and range from the seven-twin-spoke 16-inch rims standard on the C250 up to the slick 19-inch multi-spoke gems available on the C63 AMG.

Inside, the luxurious cabin features soft leather surfaces and rich wood trim, such as burl walnut or dark ash, creating the feeling this car should be running with higher-priced models. If you’re not partial to wood, aluminum accents are available, while the AMG gets carbon fibre trim in keeping with its high-performance flavour. The trio of round gauges centred cleanly in front of the driver includes a new colour centre display screen, while the centre stack gets a new look with revised air vents and aluminum control buttons.

The seats wrap around you, keeping your body firmly planted when the route gets interesting, which is the case here. Twisty two-lane roads, often shrinking to a single lane with sharp hairpin turns seemingly around every protruding lava rock face not only tested the seating but gave the suspension a workout as well. The C-Class responded with handling that prompted a smile on my face — you won’t mistake this Benz for a full-blown sport sedan, but it certainly proves itself respectable when pressing it on these challenging roads.

The cirrent pop-up navigation screen has been replaced with a new NTG 4.5 Telematics Generation unit, integrated into the dash, featuring a larger screen and improved graphics. The base unit has a 5.8-inch colour display plus CD/USB/auxiliary input interface and Bluetooth connectivity. (Input ports for the USB and auxiliary input are now located in the centre console.) The available full navigation system displays on a seven-inch colour screen that has provisions for DVD audio/video and an SD card slot. An optional media interface system that displays the cover art of the tunes you’re playing can be ordered without having to spring for the nav system.

Other technologies, previously reserved for higher-end Mercedes models, are now being shared with the C-Class as options, including a driver assist package with passive blind spot and lane-keeping assist systems. A parking guidance system is also available. An attention assist system is standard on all models.

The new C-Class sedan will be offered in Canada in six variations, starting with the C250 rear-wheel-drive model and ramping up to the impressive C63 AMG sport sedan. The C250 will also be available with Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive system; there’s also a C300 and C350, both with all-wheel drive. The C350 will also be available in a rear-wheel-drive configuration, but the rear-drive C300 has been dropped for 2012. All of these new models are slated for sale in July. Sadly, the C-Class wagon models shown here won’t be offered in Canada — and that’s a pity.

Although they share the same model designation, the C250 gets different engines, depending on its drive format. The rear-drive C250 gets a new direct-injection turbocharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder, replacing the current V6, while the 4Matic version retains the 228-horsepower 3.0L V6. The new four, dubbed the M271, generates 201 hp at 5,500 rpm and 229 pound-feet of torque starting at just 2,300 rpm. It’s coupled to a seven-speed automatic. Mercedes says the rear-drive C250 will hit 100 kilometres an hour in 7.2 seconds, yet it also delivers robust fuel economy. (Official ratings have not yet been released.)

On my initial drive, I was assigned a C250 wagon with the new four-banger. It proved more than adequate on the highway as well as the twisty secondary routes.

Response was immediate, although it seemed more willing when working the paddle shifters rather than letting the seven-speed tranny make the gear selections. On the mountainous sections, making manual choices made a huge difference, overriding the economy mode that tended to downplay performance and response in an effort to boost fuel efficiency. For cruising, that setting is ideal, but, when one wants to be playful, take matters into your own hands.

Both C350 iterations have a new engine, too. The M276 is a 3.5L V6 with direct injection, channelling its 302 hp (at 6,500 rpm) and 273 lb-ft of torque (starting at 3,500 rpm) through a seven-speed automatic transmission. The new engine boosts horsepower by 34 ponies compared with the previous V6, while torque has been bumped by 15 lb-ft. The new six is capable of pushing the C-Class to 100 km/h in six seconds flat while delivering a 10% improvement in fuel economy plus fewer CO2 emissions.

Changes to the C63 include the AMG-developed Speedshift MCT seven-speed transmission, which replaces the 7G-Tronic box. The new box, which is shared with the E63, includes a launch control system.

Export Porsche Cayenne at US Auto Enterprises.com Call 1-888-705-6787

Jun 09, 2011 – The 2011 Porsche Cayenne ranks 11 out of 18 Luxury Midsize SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 53 published reviews and test drives of the Porsche Cayenne, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

The Porsche Cayenne is an SUV for those who would rather be driving a sports car. It's a luxurious, sexy and powerful alternative to a minivan or the ho-hum SUVs that make up the luxury midsize pack -- and now there’s even a hybrid model for drivers concerned about fuel economy or the environment.

Think the Cayenne is too good to be true? For some, it is. Unless you're rolling in money, the Cayenne's steep sticker price is quite a wake-up call. At $46,700, the Cayenne's base price might seem like a steal for the Porsche name -- but it can skyrocket to more than $100,000 depending on trim (and if you opt for the super-powerful Turbo model, that’s even before you add options). Plus, the all-new S Hybrid starts at $67,700, which makes it the most expensive hybrid SUV on the market.

Of course, for that cash you're getting genuine Porsche performance, status and style with the practicality of an SUV. PLus, if you go for the hybrid, test drivers say it sacrifices surprisingly little in the way of performance for its gas/electric powertrain.

"Perhaps most important is that the Cayenne S Hybrid still largely felt like a Porsche,” says Motor Trend. “Granted, the Cayenne isn't the sportiest member of the Porsche range, but it does offer a level of precision, feel, and driver gratification that is lacking in many other luxury SUVs."

The hybrid model isn’t the only big news for the Cayenne. Porsche has redesigned all Cayenne models with updated styling, more power, and even better fuel economy. The new model has a sleeker exterior design, but it’s actually larger than the previous model. That means more cargo space and room for rear-seat passengers -- a plus for families. The Cayenne has also shaved about 400 pounds off its curb weight, which makes it more agile and fuel-efficient overall.

Export Toyote Sequoia Platinum & SR5 at US Auto Enterprises.com Call 1-888-705-6787

Jun 09, 2011 – Review
Our first Sequoia after 12 years with 2 expeditions. Very pleased so far. Believe the platinum is way overpriced when you compare the few extra options you get. We bought a limited with options of navigation and woodgrain interior on the dash ("molded dash applique"). Have to have the fold flat 3rd row, so that excludes GM, and this time decided to spend a little more to get a better quality interior (one of only a few complaints we had with the expedition). Hoping to have better resale value as well. We have been very pleased with the luxury feel of the interior and smooth ride. We did buy our LTD in another state and had it shipped. LTDs are hard to find/nonexistent in some areas.

Favorite Features
2nd row has tons of room, fold flat 3rd row seats with press of a button, automatic lift gate, bluetooth (so easy to use and how did I ever live without it?), huge storage console between front seats, ability to reprogram certain features - for instance now can unlock all doors with one touch of the key fob button instead of two, quality leather on seats, backup camera, and sonar sensors on the front and back (never had them on the front corners before), tight steering/turning, parking is easier than you would think with this big of a vehicle.

Suggested Improvements
Being able to open liftglass from the rear of the vehicle without having to use the key, kids can't see the clock (where it's positioned on the dash) from the 2nd row seat, it is far to reach controls on far side of the navigation screen. No big complaints on the navigation, but for the price, Toyota should offer periodic updates for the first 2 or 3 years, can't do some navigation features (entering new destinations)
while the car is in drive (Though that's a safety feature I guess I understand.)

Export Audi Q5 on Sale Now at US Auto Enterprises.com Call 1-888-705-6787

Jun 09, 2011 – Ask the average German engineer what he really thinks of hybrid technology—even if it takes plying him with a half-dozen rounds of Pils to get to the truth—and you’ll generally find an unhappy human being. But with reluctance, he’d likely concede its inevitability;
hybrids are helping to pave the way to the future of personal transport, whether we like it or not. Bearing that in mind, why not make them at least a little bit enjoyable to drive?

That’s the angle Audi is taking with its 2012 Q5 hybrid. The company says it’s the sportiest hybrid SUV going, and we’re having a hard time finding fault in that claim. It’s also Audi’s first production vehicle to incorporate both gas and electric drive, the former a 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder, the latter a 44-hp electric motor sandwiched between the engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. Combined output is 241 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, directed to all four wheels. A 72-cell, 1.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack is positioned under the load floor, and it takes a minimal toll on the rear cargo area.

True sportiness isn’t in the numbers, though; it’s in the driving. That’s where the Q5 hybrid really impresses. Anyone can appreciate 354 lb-ft of twist—which is over 100 lb-ft more than its sister model’s 3.2-liter FSI V-6 can muster. The 0-to-60-mph run should take about 6.8 seconds, just 0.3 second behind the 3.2’s 6.5-second time. Steering is weighty and precise, with more feedback than we’d dared hope for, and the brakes are among the best we’ve sampled in any hybrid, although they still lack the progressive modulation found in a good nonhybrid system.

Huge Fuel-Economy Gains

When you’re done tossing it around back roads, the Q5 readily gets down to the business of maximizing mpg. On the inflationary European cycle, Audi claims combined fuel economy of 34 mpg. We expect EPA testing to return estimates of about 26 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway compared with the 3.2 FSI’s 18 mpg city and nonhybrid 2.0’s 20. Using solely electric power, the Q5 hybrid has a maximum speed of 62 mph, although the maximum electric range of nearly two miles requires that speeds stay below 40 mph. The unique instrument cluster makes it easy to keep the internal-combustion engine silent, although doing so demands delicate throttle inputs so as not to awaken the engine.

Audi offers three driving modes. “D” is the default setting and works to maximize fuel economy. “S” maximizes battery boost for sporty driving, and “EV” aims to maintain full-electric driving. Unlike some competitors—say, from Lexus—the Q5 hybrid’s EV mode will remain the vehicle’s priority when selected. If, for example, you need to floor it to overtake slow-moving traffic or maybe gun through that yellow light, the car returns to EV mode once you’ve calmed down.

Mission Controls

If maximizing fuel economy and minimizing your carbon footprint are your goals—if you’re shopping for a hybrid, they almost certainly are—the Q5 hybrid’s driver interfaces make them easier to attain. Audi’s usual Multi Media Interface (MMI) appears here with special functions to monitor the flow of energy among the engine, motor, and battery, as well as to display rates of energy consumption and recuperation as easy-to-read bar graphs. The tachometer has been replaced by a power meter that displays real-time levels of electric boost, gas power, and battery charge. The needle is quite precise and lets you know exactly how close you are to coming off full-electric drive, making it easy to maintain silent operation.

No specific on-sale dates or pricing information have been released, but Audi has indicated the Q5 hybrid will begin arriving at dealerships sometime in 2011. (We figure that will happen later in the year.) Considering that Audi touts the hybrid as the range topper in the Q5 lineup, expect it to carry a price premium of about 15 percent over the 3.2 FSI, which would place it in the low-$50,000 range. Oh, those Germans. Ask them for something they don’t want to give you, and they’re going to make you pay for it.
